Orange Fest in Sóller

All foodies and lovers of fine dining, make haste to the Sóller Valley over the next two weeks where the Festival of Taronjas, oranges to you and me, is kicking off today in Sóller’s main plaça. From 9.30 until 14.00, there will be cooking demonstrations using citrus fruits by acclaimed television chef, Aina Burgos, and local Sóller gourmets. Meanwhile stalls in the square will be selling local citrus products and oranges and you can also pick up information leaflets about the special features of the Sóller fruit. From 6-21 June, fifteen excellent local restaurants in the town and port will be offering three course, orange inspired, menus for only 15 euros per head. However it is essential to book tables by phone in advance. For those living out of the valley, there is a super offer which includes train fare from Palma, tram fare to the port and 15 euro menu at any of the restaurants involved in the promotion, for only 27 euros. Again, the combined ticket offer must be booked as such in advance. For participating restaurants and contact numbers, go to www.skybluemallorca.com which gives comprehensive information on the event. I bumped into Sky Blue’s representatives at the successful press launch dinner for the festival at acclaimed Es Canyís in the Port of Sóller, one of the participants in the promotion. We all agreed that the standard of each course, which offered a soupçon of every menu offered by participating restaurants, was of exceptional quality. Aside from Es Canyís, popular local restaurants such as homely Can Gata and La Vila in the town and Cas Sa Pagesa in the port, will be taking part. Don’t miss out on this Sóller treat. Get booking now.

I have justo come back from this year’s Orange Feast…it has been a splendid journey to Soller…Well of course being a Majorcan myself I already knew the place…but the Orange Feast gave it a special touch..Moreover thanks to it I discovered your books!!!! I bought ‘Goats from a Small Island”, started reading already when waiting for the bus…I like the humor and the brilliant descriptions.
